Sequincer is a straightforward yet expressive MIDI sequencing application designed for iPhone and iPad, facilitating on-the-go music composition with a minimalist interface.
Users can easily add notes by tapping the grid, adjust note durations through dragging, and quickly audition their sequences by pressing the play button, supporting an intuitive workflow.
The app allows for the creation of up to 16 concurrent tracks, each assigned to a distinct instrument, all visualized on a shared piano roll for comprehensive viewing of the arrangement. Individual tracks can be selected, muted, or concealed as needed.
Sequincer functions both as a standalone application and as an AUv3 MIDI Processor plugin, enabling integration within host apps such as AUM. This capability permits routing MIDI from separate tracks to different synthesizers for layered textures and complex compositions.
Its timing and rhythmic features are notably flexible: users can define multiple bars with individual beat counts, zoom in or out on beat divisions—including quarter notes, eighths, sixteenths, and dotted rhythms—via pinch gestures. Tempo changes can be inserted to vary speed within specific sections.
The app supports importing MIDI files and MusicXML data, accommodating various external notation and sequencing standards while preserving tempo modifications, dynamics, and jump events during import.
Writing within a harmonically aware environment enables key signature assignment for each bar, ensuring notes are consistent with the selected scale. This facilitates experimentation with alternative tuning systems such as Pythagorean or Meantone tuning. Accidentals can be added by dragging notes vertically during placement.
On iPad, compatibility with Apple Pencil enhances the workflow: hovering over notes offers preview sounds before placement; double-tapping swiftly switches instruments; squeezing the Pencil Pro triggers the track palette for rapid editing—making composition both efficient and tactile.
All user projects are seamlessly synchronized via iCloud across devices, allowing users to initiate work on one device and complete it on another without interruption.
Overall, Sequincer presents a professional-grade environment for MIDI sequencing with features tailored to both beginners and experienced composers seeking mobility and creative flexibility.
